If you have seen black & white photo strips at a wedding or a brand party and thought they looked more like a magazine shoot than a photo booth, you have seen a glam booth. It has become the most requested booth style in Los Angeles, and it is the booth we are named after. Here is what a glam photo booth is, why black & white works so well, and how to tell a real glam booth from a regular booth with a filter.

What is a glam photo booth?

A glam photo booth is an open photo booth built around studio-quality lighting and editorial black & white processing. Instead of a flat flash and a color snapshot, guests stand in soft, flattering light and get a high-contrast, polished portrait, the kind of look you would expect from a fashion editorial or a celebrity red carpet. The result is printed on the spot, usually as a photo strip or a 4x6 print.

Three things make it a glam booth rather than a regular booth:

  1. The light. A large, soft light source (our Glam Booth uses a ring light with a diffusing umbrella) wraps the face evenly, smooths skin and adds a catchlight to the eyes.
  2. The processing. A tuned black & white profile with deep blacks and bright, clean highlights, not just a desaturated color photo.
  3. The print. Professional dye-sublimation prints at 300 DPI on photo paper, so the blacks stay rich and the print lasts.

Why black & white looks so good

  • It flatters everyone. Without color, redness, uneven skin tone and color casts from venue lighting disappear. Every guest, every skin tone and every outfit looks polished.
  • It never clashes. Black & white works with any wedding palette, any brand color and any dress code.
  • It feels timeless. A black & white portrait looks as good in twenty years as it does tonight, which is why guests frame these prints instead of losing them.
  • It is the look people want. Editorial black & white has become the signature style of luxury events on social media, and guests recognize it instantly.

Prefer color? Our Glam Booth can shoot in color too, and some couples run both for different parts of the night.

Tips for the best glam booth photos

  • Get close to the light. The closer you stand to the soft light, the more flattering it is.
  • Chin slightly forward and down. It sharpens the jawline in black & white.
  • Mix serious and silly. A three-photo strip is perfect for one editorial pose, one laugh and one wild card.
  • Bring the group in tight. Black & white rewards contrast, so dark and light outfits side by side look great.
